When you drop by natural health and aromatherapy stores, you are faced with choosing among the many ingredients you may employ to achieve a holistic treatment. Some of the items you may encounter include aromatherapy bath oil, aromatherapy beads, essential oils, carrier oils, fragrance oils and infused oils. Is this all confusing? Read on to differentiate one from the other, and get to know each one’s uses.
What Are Essential Oils
You might be surprised, but the so-called aromatherapy essential oils are not oily to the touch at all. Most of them are clear, but some come in amber or yellowish color, such as orange and lemon grass essential oils.
Essential oils are distilled, usually by steam or water, from various parts of the source plant such as leaves, stems, petals, roots and other parts. They are highly concentrated and contain no artificial fragrances. You can derive many physical and psychological benefits from these oils.
They are often sold in small bottles and can greatly vary in price, depending on the rarity of the plant, the amount of oil produced by the plant and other standards. Because they are in pure form, essential oils are often diluted with carrier oils prior to usage.
Carrier Oils
Since essential oils are very much concentrated and may cause severe irritations and other reactions in some people, carrier oils are used to dilute them. Carrier oils are made from the seeds, nuts and kernels, which are the parts that contain the most fat. Sometimes called vegetable oils, each one of them carries different therapeutic benefits, depending on what is being sought.
Carrier oils got scents of their own, although they may not be as strong as those from essential oils. Some of the natural lotions, body creams, massage oils, bath oils and other skin care products are made from carrier or vegetable oils. When essential oils are added to carrier oils, you will get differences in color, scent and shelf life of the final product.
Fragrance Oils
While essential oils are natural because they are made of the distilled essences of the plants where they came from, fragrance oils, on the other hand, are artificial scents – they contain artificial substances and are diluted with carrier oils. You might have also encountered items like perfume oils or potpourri oils, but they are basically just the same as fragrance oils, considering how they were made.
Unfortunately, fragrance oils do not carry the same therapeutic benefits offered by essential oils. Many scented cosmetics, candles, skin-care products like lotions and soaps, and others only contain fragrance oils or other synthetically-made fragrances. You have to read the labels carefully if you intend to use only natural ingredients in achieving relaxation and holistic caring.
Infused Oils
Infused oils are made by infusing carrier oils with herbs. These are usually intended for those plants that contain very small amounts of essential oils.
The good thing about using infused oils in aromatherapy than just plain carrier oils is that the combined therapeutic benefits of the carrier oils and the herbs infused into them are achieved. Infused oils may or may not feel oily, depending on which carrier oil is used with it.
Unlike essential oils, infused oils can go rancid over time, just like carrier oils.

I find it more than a bit amusing that I’m such a big proponent of colon cleansing because the first couple times anyone brought up the subject around me, my response was something along the lines of, “Um, do you mind if we talk about something else?”
But the flat stomach of the second person who brought it to my attention, got me signed up in a cleansing and detoxification spa a few weeks later. While there, I plugged my nose with toilet paper while colon cleansing and was repulsed at the filth that came pouring out of me. Eventually, I became comfortable with the process, and instead became repulsed at the filth that was inside of me, and also quite determined to get it out of my body.
Although most don’t know it, the average person has ten plus pounds of old and uneliminated fecal matter stuck in their colon and it can take some effort to get it out. Most people also aren’t aware that having so much stored filth in the body is also responsible for many of the health problems that people commonly experience.
For almost a hundred years, esteemed naturopaths have said that all illness begin in the colon. While I still believe this to be true today, these days, most people also have small holes in their colon walls - which allows waste from the colon to escape and reside en masse throughout the entire body.
This is a fairly new predicament for the human population, and it can be attributed to a fungal condition in the body called candida overgrowth. It’s estimated that close to 90 percent of the population has a problem with candida overgrowth, but most don’t know it. Also unfortunately, candida overgrowth is rarely diagnosed, but the symptoms are often given the names of disease.
To give you a quick run down on candida overgrowth, it’s a problem that occurs when the healthy bacteria in the colon (called probiotics) are killed, usually by taking antibiotics, birth control pills, or steroids, and by just generally having a high sugar and refined carbohydrate diet.
With these healthy bacteria that are meant to dine on the yeast candida gone, the yeast that was only meant to reside in our colons in small amounts can now grow to large proportions. In large proportions, the yeast now morphs into a fungus, and often eats small holes right through your colon walls - which allows the filth in the colon to escape and pollute the entire body. This combination, as you can imagine, creates highly toxic people and can be responsible for any number of health problems, including what appear from the outside to be emotional problems.
These are just a couple of the reasons colon cleansing and a candida cleanse are so desperately needed. Most people don’t understand how much waste is stored in the average person’s body or how many problems such toxic conditions create in the human body. But when you see it all pour out of you in amounts you never in a million years would have thought possible, the question, “Are we really that toxic?” becomes a bit mute. And when you watch your health problems disappear along with the stored filth, what was actually the cause of the problem also becomes quite clear.

Body odor becomes an interesting subject when you realize we’re really not meant to have it. Body odor is actually a sign of toxicity in the body - its odor leaking through our skin.
How do I know? Well, I’ve done very thorough body cleansing and except for a rare occasion, I haven’t had daily body odor in years - which wasn’t the case before I began cleansing. The occasion when it appears is when I’m detoxifying, in which case I can smell that mess as it’s leaving my body.
Perhaps you’ve seen images on the Internet of huge amounts of filth being removed from the body through colon cleansing? You may have also heard that most people have 10 or more pounds of old decaying fecal matter trapped in their colons at any given time. And at some point, it’s going to start to smell.
Have you ever wondered why the average person starts smelling somewhere between 13 and 16 years old? And why don’t they smell before then?
The answer: that’s about the number of years it takes to clog up our insides enough to produce a daily odor. For most, 13 to 16 years of generally unnatural eating habits does the trick just fine. And for most it’ll then take another 15 or 20 years to take it to the next level and produce what we call health problems from all of that accumulated waste in the body. But the point is, we’re really not supposed to smell from the inside out.
Bad breath is just another sign of toxicity in the body. To understand this, you’ll need to know that it’s a straight pathway from your mouth to your colon, and the reverse path is also true. So, bad breath (unless, of course, it’s garlic produced) is a sign of a toxic colon, and I’ll let you figure out the implications of what you’re really smelling.
Morning breath is common, and since I’ve cleansed deeply, it also hasn’t appeared in years. Why is morning breath so common and why does it occur? I’ll explain…
Our bodies detoxify themselves as we sleep. Our bodies take this time to detoxify us because we’re not digesting food and thus have extra energy to apply to the task.
So, each night, our bodies work to detoxify us from our daily incoming load of chemicals and previously unaddressed toxins. And each morning, we can smell the toxins on our breath that have been loosened for removal. The white coating that is common on tongues in the morning - those are toxins your body is releasing.
Morning breath is a mild detoxification symptom - or a symptom people experience when their bodies are detoxifying. And the heavier the toxicity situation, the greater the symptoms. So, the more toxic your body is, the more pungent your breath in the morning will be.
The good news is that you can cleanse your body to remove enormous stores of that toxicity, and along with it - you can remove your body odor.
One nice thing about cleansing your body enough so that you no longer have a daily odor is that deodorant is no longer needed.
Eliminating deodorant is important because most deodorants contain aluminum. That may not seem like a big deal until you understand that aluminum is generally associated with brain atrophying diseases, including dementia and Alzheimer’s, and that ninety percent of what you put on your skin makes it into your bloodstream. This makes eliminating deodorant an important step in the right direction - if you want to remember your grandchildren on your eighth birthday.
