What are the Benefits of Magnetic Therapy Treatment

Magnetic therapy is the utilization of magnets to align the magnetic fields in the body. There has been a lot of controversy over this pseudo scientific practice since the effects have not really been proved. Many individuals use this type of alternative medicine as a way to relieve continual pain and help with particular conditions. Many of the websites and practitioners claim that this form of therapy has been employed for thousands of years. It is believed that the use of magnets and the study of the electromagnetic balance of the body has long been a secret of the Chinese. However, there are several other cultures that have written about bio magnetic therapy including Egypt, and even Greece. The procedure of making use of magnets to restore the natural balance of the body supposedly works by increasing blood flow and oxygen into the natural healing process. The magnets in some way produce a magnetic field that can rid the user of a variety of ailments. Whether or not this is actually accurate is a hotly contended matter.

It may sound like science fiction, but pulsed electromagnetic field therapy has most recently been employed to treat depression. The NeuroStar Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation or TMS Therapy system has been FDA approved for people with chronic depression who have not responded to antidepressants. Patients will receive three thousand zaps of an MRI strength electromagnetic pulse in the prefrontal cortex during a daily forty minute process over a period of four to six weeks. In a clinical study of one hundred and sixty four individuals, substantial improvement was recorded for depression, anxiousness and additional signs of distress in just one week. Approximately, twenty four percent showed marked improvement, which is just as good as any antidepressant, say researchers. The only real side effect of the treatment was slight scalp discomfort and headaches, which declined after the first week, and around five percent stopped treatment because of it.

Magnetic therapy is certainly not some type of miraculous panacea. While magnetic jewellery or a magnetic pillow may not be expensive, actual transcranial magnetic stimulation can be pricey. TMS is expected to cost somewhere between six and ten thousand dollars, depending on how many treatments are needed. On one hand, it is cheaper and less invasive than surgery; but on the other hand, there are few studies to validate the long-term effectiveness when treatments are stopped. Magnetic therapy appears to have no harmful side effects. The truth of the matter comes down to the fact that there must be more studies carried out in order to find out what the long-term effects of magnets are and also if they are really beneficial. Maybe researchers have just hit the tip of the iceberg for magnetic treatments and many more breakthroughs are sure to come. Only time will tell on that point.
